A century-old house in rural Taney County was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon. Firefighters from the Western Taney County Fire Protection District responded to the blaze at the Drury House, located in the Drury Conservation Area.

Due to the house’s remote location, fire crews took a defensive approach to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the structure. Firefighters worked for several hours to contain the flames. Afterward, Missouri Department of Conservation officials stayed on-site to monitor the area.

The Drury House, built in 1924 by Frank Drury, was one of two properties associated with the Bull Shoals Field Station, which supports research and educational programs related to southwest Missouri’s ecosystems. The off-grid home featured solar panels, battery storage, a backup generator, and other sustainable systems, and had the capacity to accommodate up to 16 people.
