In early August last year, two people from Iowa were arrested for possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia, and a Baxter County sheriff’s deputy was sent to the hospital after he came in contact with an unknown substance while on scene that made him sick.

One of the people, 32-year-old Kyle Dwayne Strohman of Spencer, Iowa, pled guilty to the charges against him during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court March 17 and was put on probation for five years.

The case against 22-year-old Bayli Rian Jordan whose address was listed to be along East Madison Street in Des Moines remains active.

A failure to appear warrant was issued for Jordan after she was a no show in court on Feb. 18. She was picked up on the warrant March 3 and is in the Baxter County Detention Center on a no-bond hold.

Strohman was at one time enrolled in a local rehabilitation program and was holding down a job at a local business.

On one of the court documents he filled out, Strohman listed Jordan as his fiancé.

She has listed her place of employment as an internet content subscription service called “Only Fans” which carries pornographic material in addition to the producta of other “content creators.”

During an earlier court appearance Jordan had entered not guilty pleas to the charges against her.

The deputies became involved when they responded to a suspicious vehicle report from the Dollar General Store in the Henderson area. The vehicle had reportedly been in the parking lot for more than an hour and was frequently moving from one space to another.

When deputies arrived, they found a male and female occupying a 2007 GMC pickup truck. As a deputy approached the vehicle, he reported seeing the people inside, “attempting to hide items.”

It was discovered that the pickup truck should have had a working interlock device that would prevent it from being started if the driver had been drinking.

The deputy noted the truck was running and found the interlock device had been disconnected.

Both Jordan and Strohman have a long list of charges from various jurisdictions in Iowa.

Iowa court records show that 55 cases have been opened on Strohman and 31 on Jordan. The cases are a mix of felonies and misdemeanors. Jordan’s charges are the more serious, including possession of contraband in a correctional institution.

Jordan first popped up in 2015 when an Amber Alert was issued for her and a 16-year-old male traveling companion. In a press release put out by the Iowa Department of Public Safety, authorities said they believed the young people were traveling together willingly.

The alert was cancelled shortly after it was issued when Jordan and the male were found together and safe in another county.

In the incident at Henderson, Strohman was taken into custody first. A search of the driver’s area of the truck was conducted.

About 4.4 grams of methamphetamine and smoking pipes used to ingest the drug were found in a black zipper bag.

When one of the deputies opened the bag, he began to feel ill, had difficulty breathing and became nauseous and weak.

Emergency medical personnel from the Henderson Fire Department arrived, and the deputy was taken to Baxter Health.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Strohman had already been taken to jail, but Jordan was still on scene. She was questioned about what the deputy might have contacted. The information was solicited so it could be transmitted to the hospital to expedite the deputy’s treatment. Jordan was reported to have refused to provide any information.

Deputies found 67 small blue pills in a plastic baggie that was in one of Jordan’s pockets. The pills were first suspected of containing Fentynal, but tests run on the pills showed positive for morphine.

The deputies reported finding “numerous types of prescription drugs” in the vehicle, including amphetamine sulfate.

During her initial contacts with deputies, Jordan gave a false name and continued to use it when booked into the jail. Her actual name was eventually located.

Deputies reported the truck Strohman and Jordan occupied appeared as if the couple had been living in the vehicle.

Strohman was arrested by the Iowa State Patrol in late Sept. 2021 while driving the same make and model pickup that he and Jordan were occupying during the Baxter County arrest.

He was reported “not to have any idea of where he was going.” The Iowa State trooper reported Strohman failed preliminary sobriety tests.

In Baxter County, both Strohman and Jordan face drug and drug paraphernalia possession charges. Strohman is also charged with tampering with an interlock device and Jordan with obstructing governmental operations for giving a false name to a deputy and then to jail staff.

Court records show Jordan has a “fugitive” warrant from Phelps County, Missouri and a probation violation warrant from Clay County, Iowa.
