
Mountain Home had mixed results Tuesday as they played their opening games in the Gulf Shores Baseball Classic III at Alabama.
The Bombers began the day on a rough note as they fell to Headland, Ala., 10-6. After the Rams scored the first run in the opening frame, Mountain Home captured its first lead in the third inning on a pair of RBI singles by Jackson Corp and Drew Haney. Headland tied the game in the top of the fourth, but the Bombers went back on top in the bottom half on RBI singles by Will Rauls and Lincoln Sherry and a sacrifice fly by Carter Adkins. Mountain Home was up 6-3 going into the final inning, but the Rams exploded for seven runs on four hits, including a grand slam over the left field fence.
Ian Ellison was the Bombers’ starting pitcher with four innings, five strikeouts, four hits, two walks and two runs (one earned). Mountain Home ended up with 12 hits in the game.
The Bombers bounced back in the later game as they shut out Albertville, Ala., 9-0. Mountain Home’s first run was scored on an error in the opening frame. Sherry and Haney extended the lead further in the third inning with RBI singles.
Koen Bickford was the winner with 5 1/3 innings, five strikeouts and three walks, and Adkins appeared in relief. Sherry was 1-for-3 with three RBIs; and Ryder McClain, Adkins and Nate Henderson each collected two hits.
The Bombers are now 8-2 on the the season.
