A Baxter County man has been arrested for stealing items, including a vehicle, from a woman’s home who had stopped to give him a ride after his motorcycle ran out of gas. Thirty-year-old Carl Jacob Jones of Henderson is facing three charges, including two felonies, for the incident.According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the victim had picked up Jones about week prior to the theft. He told the victim he was out of work and looking for a job. The victim took him to a house on County Road 478 she was in the process of selling so he could help her with some jobs there. She showed Jones around the property and he said he would be back the next day, but never showed up.

The victim contacted the sheriff’s office about a week later and reported many items missing from the house including a vehicle, a Polaris Ranger, an 8X10 trailer, multiple tools, ammunition and clothing.

Investigators determined Jones had taken the stolen trailer, with some of the stolen items, to a scrap yard twice.

Jones is facing felony charges of residential burglary and breaking or entering and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. He is facing a penalty enhancement of being a habitual offender for having four or more felony convictions. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on bonds totaling $35,000.
