
The sales tax revenue for Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home saw slight decreases for March. The last time both the city and county saw decreases in sales tax was in November 2023, which reflected spending in October 2023. In July 2024 the county saw a decrease while the city saw and increase and in June 2024, the city saw a decrease while the county saw an increase.
According Mountain Homes Director of Finance and Treasury Alma Clark, the city collected a total of $525,193 in city sales tax revenue for March which is a decrease of 3.5262% from this time last year. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total decrease of 11,924 or .6845%.
Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $440,859. This time last year, Baxter County received $446,724, a difference of -1.3%.
Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in March, which reflect area spending from the month of January.
Mountain Home received $238,485 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $241,658, it is an decrease of 1.3129%. The year-to-date increase equals $2,624 or .3291%.
Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:
– Gassville, which received $40,370;
– Cotter, which received $16,475;
– Lakeview, which received $14,411;
– Salesville, which received $8,795;
– Norfork, which received $8,646;
– Briarcliff, which received $4,388; and
– Big Flat, which received $1,636.
Baxter County received $193,517 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.
Mountain Home received $190,002 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $196,947, which is a monthly decrease of 3.5262%. The year-to-date decrease is nearly $4,471 or .6845%.
Mountain Home has collected nearly $253,337 for March from the park improvement sales tax, which is $35,163 more than needed for Bond Payment of $218,173 for 2025.
Park operation sales tax for March equals $126,668.
