A man who claimed to personally know Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and said the entire Kansas City Chiefs team was coming to Gainesville for a parade he was setting up has been arrested on multiple charges. Sixty-five-year-old Eric J. Hogard of Kansas City is being held in the Ozark County Jail on five charges, including two felonies.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a call of a male driving erratically. When the deputies arrived, they found Hogard parked and singing loudly. It was at this point he told them his story about the Chiefs. He was on private property and was told to leave. The deputies had another call, but noticed Hogard, as he was leaving the area, would drive a short distance, stop and then start again. He was also half on the road and half on the shoulder. The deputies noted there were no signs of intoxicants at the time.
About five and a half hours later, the deputies were dispatched to another business in Gainesville where a man had parked with his hazards on and was yelling and acting strange.
When deputies arrived, they recognized Hogard from their earlier encounter. This time they could smell burnt marijuana coming from the car. He denied smoking anything. When asked if he had been drinking, he replied he had not drunk alcohol “for 100 years.” He started becoming argumentative and told the deputies he “owned this town” because his grandfather has the title in his name.
When one of the deputies went to the passenger side to see if there were any alcohol containers in plain view, Hogard said “I’m warning you, I’ll pull it!” as his left hand went towards the pocket of the driver’s door and his right hand went between the driver’s seat and the middle console. At this point, the deputies attempted to remove Hogard from the vehicle. After a short struggle, he was removed and taken into custody.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies found methamphetamine, four meth pipes, 11 containers of marijuana, four used marijuana smoking devices, hydrocodone and oxycodone pills, a digital scale, and bottles of vodka and fireball whiskey, both nearly empty.
Hogard is facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia along with misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, failing to obey orders and DWI. He is being held in the Ozark County Jail on bonds totaling $5,000.
