For the second straight time, Arkansas State appears to be selecting an assistant coach at Alabama to lead its men’s basketball program. According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, the network’s sources say Ryan Pannone is expected to be named the Red Wolves’ next head coach, and an official announcement could come as early as Sunday.
Pannone has been on the Crimson Tide’s staff for the past two seasons after head coach Nate Oats hired him in June 2023. Alabama reached the Final Four last season and is looking to get back this year.
Pannone is expected to succeed Bryan Hodgson, who departed A-State on Monday for the head coaching position at South Florida. Hodgson led the Red Wolves for two 20-plus-win seasons after also serving as a Crimson Tide assistant under Oats.
