Friday results include MHHS softball team splitting final 2 games in Southern Warrior Classic

The Mountain Home High School softball team wrapped up action in the Southern Warrior Classic with mixed results Friday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Lady Bombers defeated Glenbrook North from Illinois 7-4, but they fell to Crockett County, Tenn., 7-1. Mountain Home is now 7-4 on the season.

A few area high schools began action in the Ozarks Softball Classic at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
Yellville-Summit ended up losing one of the openers. The Lady Panthers were shut out by Walnut Ridge 9-0.
Calico Rock was beaten by Izard County 5-0. Megan McBride was credited with the victory as she recorded 13 strikeouts and gave up four hits and no walks. Makensie Yancey led the Lady Cougars by going 1-for-2 and driving in two runs, and McBride and Quinn Johnson each added a hit.
Marshall was sent to the consolation side of the bracket. The Lady Bobcats were edged out by Buffalo Island Central 5-4.
Valley Springs ended up losing the other opening game of the tournament. The Lady Tigers fell to Magazine 8-2.

In other softball, Bakersfield lost at Couch 7-6.

In high school baseball, the Forrest L. Wood Classic came to an end at Flippin.
Norfork was able to pick up a win in the first game of the day. The Panthers topped East Poinsett County 9-5.
Flippin came away with a high-scoring victory. The host Bobcats squeaked by Green Forest 12-11.
Salem fell to Izard County 11-2 in the last game of the day. Cash Arnhart ended up with the win as he pitched five innings for the Cougars, and he also provided plenty of offense with a home run. Tyler Morehead pitched a scoreless sixth inning for Izard County.
In the mid-afternoon game, Highland breezed past Heber Springs 11-1.

Cotter had a rough second day in the Clinch River Classic in Tennessee. The Warriors suffered a 19-2 defeat at the hands of Clinton, Tenn.

The first two games of the inaugural Gainesville Baseball Tournament will held on Friday. Bakersfield came up just short in a 6-5 loss to Ava, and the host Bulldogs beat up on Thayer 14-3.

Dora ended up with a rough day in front of the home crowd. The Falcons suffered an 11-1 loss to Alton.

Melbourne had another easy win in its second game in the Robinson Invitational at Maumelle Charter High School. The Bearkatz pounded Cross County 13-2.
