Nearly six years after his death, an area man’s name has been added to the Arkansas Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial. Former Harrison firefighter Jim McCammon was honored during Saturday’s ceremony at the memorial in Little Rock.

According to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, McCammon served on and off in the Harrison Fire Department for over 30 years and was the city’s first fire inspector. He retired as a captain at the end of January 2007. McCammon’s awards include the Fire Safety Commendation Medal and the Arkansas Fire Marshal’s Association Lifetime Member for Outstanding Service. In 2019, the Harrison Fire Department’s training tower was named in his honor.

McCammon developed kidney cancer in 2012, liver cancer in 2016 and lung cancer in 2018. He died May 12, 2019, at the age of 64. In an interview shortly before his death, McCammon told KYTV he believed the cancer was linked to his profession.

McCammon was one of two named added to the memorial on Saturday. The late Fort Smith Fire Chief Phil Christensen also died of cancer in 2023. Click here to view the live video of the ceremony on Facebook.
