
Baseball-size hail in Viola (Photo courtesy of Gloria Dellinger)Sunday afternoon’s severe storm activity resulted in several rounds of heavy hail falling throughout the Twin Lakes Area. Currently, reports are varied on the level of damage although it seems to be isolated to areas heaviest hit.

Pictures were submitted to KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News and to the National Weather Service showing the size of the hail in the area. There were multiple reports of baseball-size hail in Fulton County, including one from North Arkansas Electric Cooperative Chief Executive Officer Mel Coleman. There were other reports of golf ball-size hail in Baxter and Marion counties. A consistent report of marble sized hail was given in an area stretching from south of Yellville, through Rea Valley, towards Cotter and onward past Mountain Home. A resident on County Road 342 at Norfork Lake submitted a video of hail stones falling through the rain spout onto the residence’s porch at a rate so heavy it appeared as bank of snow.

At the KTLO studios on Highway 5 North 0.48 inches of rain fell and dime sized hail was observed at 4:45 Sunday afternoon. There was one tornado warning issued for portions of Baxter and Fulton counties. The warning ended up being canceled before its expiration time as the storm was crossing Fulton County between Viola and Salem.
