The White Hall School District and its community are mourning the loss of a coach for the second time in less than two years. According to Arkansas Varsity, multiple sources confirmed Bulldog boys’ basketball coach Matt Williams was killed in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday night at the corner of 46th Avenue and Hazel Street in Pine Bluff.
Williams had just completed his first season at White Hall. He had served in the same position at Texarkana the previous year. Williams is also a former assistant coach at Springdale and Jonesboro, and he began his career as director of basketball operations for the men’s program at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.
No further information on the cause of the accident has been released by the Pine Bluff Police Department. Williams’ death comes nearly 22 months after Ryan Mallett drowned in Florida in June 2023 following his lone season as the head football coach at White Hall.
