Missouri’s Youth Spring Turkey Hunting Weekend has ended with young hunters harvesting nearly 4,500 birds across the state. The numbers mark an impressive milestone as nearly 700 more turkeys were harvested compared to last year and was only 20 turkeys shy of breaking the record set in 2015.

The top harvest counties were Osage with 107 birds harvested, Gasconade with 105 and Texas with 94.

Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Turkey Biologist Nick Oakley says “Excellent turkey hunting weather and a large number of two-year-old gobblers on the landscape likely led to the 18% increase in youth harvest this year. This bodes well for another strong regular season next week.”
