The Mountain Home City Council met in regular session Thursday evening and worked to create funding avenues for the local public works projects.
The council approved an ordinance to authorize the issuance and sale of $10 million in bonds to finance the completion of the waste water treatment plant. The project started in 2021 with $10 million in bonds and another $10 million is needed to complete the construction on the 50 plus year old system.
Public Works Director Steve Hill told the council they are doing away with chlorination and putting in an ultraviolet disinfection system. They are also upgrading all of the electrical at the waste water plant.
The city is expected to have the funds by May 29 after the bonds have been issued.
Hill told the council the construction is expected to be complete by the second quarter of 2026.
The council heard a presentation from the North Central Arkansas Economic Alliance as they look for the councils commitment for one another year. Last year, the council paid the alliance $30,000 for their services.
The alliance is made up of local business leaders that work to bring economic expansion and development to the Twin Lakes Area, especially in the areas of tourism, manufacturing and small business.
The council will consider an ordinance to continue their partnership with the alliance at its next meeting in two weeks.
The council approved the Mountain Home Fire Departments request to remove the old mobile smoke house from their inventory and sell it. The item is a 1998 camper. The department has a newer inflatable smoke house they now use to teach fire safety to children.
Also approved was an ordinance to amend the job classification and compensation plan to remove the titles of Chief Deputy Treasurer and Chief Deputy Court Clerk and replace them with the new position of Executive Assistant.
The council also approved the final replat and public dedications of lot 2, West End Phase 1, located at West End Way.
