Bill requiring Ten Commandments and national motto displays in classrooms signed into law

A bill recently signed into law by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, requires the national motto and the ten commandments to be displayed in school classrooms.

SB433 requires the national motto, “In God We Trust,” to be displayed as a durable poster or framed copy of at least 11 by 14 inches, be the central focus of the poster and have a large font size. An accurate representation of the Arkansas state flag is will be displayed under the motto.

A separate durable poster or framed copy will be required for the Ten Commandments with a size of at least 16 by 20 inches and should be legible to a person of average vision from anywhere in the room.

According to the bill, the posters are to be displayed in public institutions of higher education and elementary and secondary school libraries and classrooms in addition to public buildings or facilities maintained or operated by taxpayer funds.

Copies of the posters are only authorized to be purchased solely with funds available through voluntary contributions to the local school boards, local building governing entity or the Building Authority Division.
