Three Marion County deputies and first responders from Yellville were needed to take a Marion County man into custody at a restaurant where he appeared to be asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle after placing his food order.
According to the arrest affidavit filed on Thursday, on October 4th a deputy found 57-year-old William Allen of Yellville in his vehicle at the restaurant and had to raise his voice in order to wake him. When he awoke, he asked the officer how much he owed for the food he had received. When the officer identified himself as a sheriff’s deputy, Allen told him he did not want to drive because he was tired.
When Allen was asked to provide his driver’s license for identification, he had difficulty locating his wallet, despite the officer being able to see it inside the vehicle. As Allen rummaged through his wallet in search of his license, the officer noticed a small plastic bag inside it with what appeared to be a white crystalline substance. Allen then located his driver’s license.
Allen was asked to open the compartment of his wallet containing the plastic bag and place it on the dash of his vehicle. When asked to exit the vehicle, Allen maintained he could not due to the lack of clearance between his vehicle and the stall of the drive-in parking space. Eventually, Allen had to back the vehicle from the space in order to exit.
When Allen was asked to exit the vehicle, he was unable to stand and had to be assisted by a deputy. He then slid down the rear of his vehicle onto the ground. Several minutes later as Allen attempted to walk to the patrol car with the aid of two deputies, his shorts fell to the ground, briefly exposing him.
First responders were then called to assist the three deputies because Allen was unable to sit correctly in the patrol car due to his lack of mobility.
He was transported to the Marion County Detention Center and charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of public intoxication. His bond was set at $5,000.
