Phone scammers have contacted at least two businesses served by North Arkansas Electric Cooperative since Saturday. Tori Moss, NAEC’s Marketing and Communications Director, says in both instances the caller threatened to disconnect electric service if the alleged past-due balance was not paid immediately.
This particular scam is one of many common scams which frequently occur locally, statewide and across the nation. A list of other common scams and how they can be avoided can be found at the Consumer Protection Division of the Arkansas Attorney General website http://arkansasag.gov/consumer-protection/common-scams. The Consumer Protection hotline number is 1-800-482-8982.
Moss says although NAEC employees do make courtesy calls, they will not threaten members with disconnection in this manner. Those wanting to confirm they are speaking with an NAEC employee are always encouraged to hang up and dial the co-op.
In Baxter County, the NAEC number is 870-425-2141, in Fulton, it’s 870-895-3221, in Izard, it’s 870-670-5600, and in Sharp it’s 870-994-2191.
In addition, NAEC members may access their account information or pay their bill through the member account portal at www.naeci.comNAECI at any time.
