Jeff Albertson; ABC/Randy HolmesWeezer bassist Scott Shriner has revealed that he will be performing with The Cars at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this Saturday in Cleveland. Shriner will step in for founding Cars bass player Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000 of pancreatic cancer.
“There are a few bands that influenced my musical passion as a young man and The Cars are at the top of the list,” Shriner writes in an Instagram post. “Ric Ocasek, in particular, has been an integral part of Weezer’s entire catalogue, and an inspiration to us all.”
Shriner adds, “As such, it is with great excitement that I announce my guest appearance with them during their performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction show…I am beyond overjoyed if that is possible so…overjoyed X2 or overoverjoyed.”
The Cars, meanwhile, have posted a message on their official Twitter feed that reads, “We’re so thrilled to have Scott Shriner of Weezer joining The Cars on stage for their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction!”
Ocasek, who shared lead vocal duties in The Cars with Orr and was the band’s main songwriter and rhythm guitarist, produced Weezer’s Blue Album, Green Album and Everything Will Be Alright in the End.
