Several reports have come in to KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot and to local emergency personnel on a loud boom Monday afternoon between 2:30 and 2:40, and several photos were posted on social media of contrails circling the sky following the boom.  Lieutenant Hunter Rininger of the Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville says there were no military aircraft in the area loud enough to cause such a sound.

A Baxter County 9-1-1 dispatch spokesperson says they have received calls from citizens all over Baxter County, but nothing has been identified. Sheriff’s offices in Baxter, Fulton and Izard counties also have not been able to pinpoint the cause of the boom. KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot have received calls from listeners in Mountain Home, Norfork, Clarkridge, Viola, Salem and Calico Rock.

The U.S. Geological Survey is not reporting any earthquakes in the area.
