ABC/Image Group LA “This Is It,” the song Scotty McCreery wrote about proposing to his wife Gabi, is now nearing country’s top ten. The American Idol winner admits he and his bride are getting a kick out of seeing their song become a hit.
“It is so cool,” he tells ABC Radio. “I mean, me and my wife are watching the charts and, some folks are like, ‘Don’t watch the charts,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, but it’s fun right now!’ It’s our story. I’m glad folks are embracing it.”
Scotty’s also realizing “This Is It” is making it easier for other guys to pop the question.
“I rode the elevator down, I was going to the football game,” he explains, “and this guy is like, ‘Scotty, right?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah!’ And he was like, ‘Dude, thanks for “This Is It.” I used it to propose to my girlfriend.’ So it’s cool that folks are using it for them too.”
The North Carolina native finds it pretty ironic that he’s been facilitating proposals, though, since he admits he was incredibly nervous the day he asked Gabi to be his wife.
“It wasn’t easy for me!” Scotty laughs. “I was an awkward son of a gun up on that mountain. Like, heart was racing, I was tripping over my words. I tried to get on one knee, and was on two different rocks and had to like, try again. It didn’t quite work out the first time.”
“But she said yes,” he smiles.
Tonight, Scotty kicks off his Seasons Change Tour at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.
