Credit: Clay Patrick McBrideLynyrd Skynyrd are among the many celebrities featured in a new TV special called Rock the Troops honoring U.S. military personnel that airs tonight on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. The event, which was taped last month at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, was hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and features performances by a variety of music and comedy acts.
Rock the Troops pays homage to the sacrifices and dedication of U.S. military members in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing that brought the country into World War II.
“Proud men and women of the military and your families, we’re so proud, we’re so honored, we are so privileged to bring you guys this show,” says The Rock in a preview video for the event. “We wanted to create something historic for you.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant notes in the same promo, “My dad was in Pearl Harbor and he’s passed on now, so it’s great to be here for him and all the other troops.”
Among the other stars featured on the show are Tenacious D, Staind‘s Aaron Lewis, Nick Jonas and Flo Rida, as well as comic actors Kevin Hart, Rob Riggle, Keegan Michael-Key, Terry Crews and J.B. Smoove. George Clooney also appears in a taped segment.
