Courtesy CMAWhen the biggest names in country music got together in late September to record this year’s CMA Country Christmas special, at least one new fast friendship was forged — the one between host Reba McEntire and Shay Mooney‘s son, Asher.
“We were at the rehearsals…” the Dan + Shay singer explains, “and he wandered into the dressing room. And I think my wife was out in the hall, and I think we were onstage.”
“And Reba was just hanging out in the dressing room,” Shay continues, “and Asher just came in there, and was just like [screaming], because he gets really upset when people kinda walk away from him. So I think Reba had walked by, and he was like, ‘I gotta be friends with this woman. She seems awesome.'”
All it took to quiet the nearly-two-year-old was a little food and friendship.
“She gave him some biscuits and pumpkin rolls,” Shay says, “and it was pretty hilarious. But she was very gracious. So they’re best friends now, so that’s pretty cool.”
“Maybe you can get a picture with Reba too,” Dan Smyers jokes.
“I haven’t even gotten a picture with Reba,” Shay admits. “My son got one before me, so there it is.”
In fact, Reba even shared the moment on Instagram.
