Courtesy of Gordon LightfootNever mind that he celebrated his 80th birthday last month: Gordon Lightfoot is still going strong. In fact, the Canadian folk-rock legend just announced dates for a new 2019 tour, called the “80 Years Strong” trek, that will visit the U.S. in March and his native Ontario, Canada, in April.
The U.S. portion of the tour, which will visit the Western part of the country, kicks off March 4 in Sacramento, California, and runs through a March 17 concert in Phoenix, Arizona. Gordon then heads home to Ontario for shows spanning from an April 3 show in Richmond Hill to an April 15-17 engagement in Mississauga.
In a 2016 interview shortly before his 78th birthday, Lightfoot discussed his desire to keep performing.
“We love to work while the sun shines,” he said. “Because the night will come when you may no longer work — that was from [Bob] Dylan…I love doin’ the shows. The ship of state is still afloat and I’ve still got the vocal — and the desire.”
