Local basketball teams have mixed results Wednesday in tournament play

There was high school basketball Wednesday as Mammoth Spring hosted its third day of the Battle of the Border Tournament.
Bakersfield’s girls were able to advance to the consolation finals of the girls’ bracket. The Lady Lions defeated Salem 48-41.
Bakersfield’s opponent on Saturday will be Calico Rock. The Lady Pirates invoked the mercy rule as they routed Couch 63-27.
Mountain View-Liberty is the first team to advance to the title game on the boys’ side. The Eagles won a high-scoring game over Sloan-Hendrix by a final of 85-76.
Koshkonong’s boys will move on to the consolation final. The Blue Jays eliminated Couch with a 62-58 decision.

The Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament held its second day of competition at the Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville.
Viola was sent to the consolation side of the girls’ bracket. The Lady Longhorns fell to Highland 69-58.
Melbourne’s girls were able to put the mercy rule in effect in their first round game. The Lady Bearkatz beat up on Wynne 49-12.
Mountain View will join Melbourne in Friday’s semifinals. The Lady Yellowjackets pounded Southside Batesville 74-46.
The Viola boys did not fare any better than their female counterparts. The Longhorns lost to Southside 64-36.
Wynne will be Viola’s opponent in the consolation semifinals. Melbourne topped the Yellowjackets by a score of 46-36.
