The championship games of the Battle of the Border Tournament are set in Mammoth Spring following Thursday’s action.
Bakersfield’s boys were able to advance to the consolation final after eliminating Mountain Home Christian Academy by a 55-50 decision. The Lions will face Koshkonong on Saturday.
Mammoth Spring handed Calico Rock its first loss of the season in the other boys’ contest with a 66-61 overtime victory. Alex Mero was the host Bears’ top scorer with 25 points, Jacob Golden had 19, and Cole Young added 11. Mammoth Spring improves to 7-6 on the year, and they’ll meet Mountain View-Liberty Saturday for the title. Calico Rock will take on Sloan-Hendrix for third place. The Pirates fall to 13-1.
Gainesville’s girls were sent to the third place game after losing to Mammoth Spring 45-20. Lauren Mitchell and Terra Godwin paced the Lady Bears with 14 points each. Mammoth Spring is now 8-4 on the season.
Thayer will be the Lady Bears’ opponent in the championship game. The Lady Bobcats needed overtime, but they got past Eminence 52-48. Gainesville will play the Lady Redwings for third place.
The Gainesville boys will move on to the consolation final of the Mansfield Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs edged out Norwood 52-51.
Three area teams took part in the consolation semifinals of the Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College High School Tournament Thursday in Batesville.
Viola’s girls were able to remain alive in the tournament after beating Southside Batesville 67-52. The Lady Longhorns will meet Cave City for the consolation title on Saturday.
Viola also advanced to the boys’ consolation final. The Longhorns eliminated Wynne by a final of 53-49.
Viola’s boys will also play Cave City on Saturday. Mountain View was bounced by the Cavemen with a score of 61-48.
The Bergman boys will advance to Saturday’s championship game of the Anstaff Bank Holiday Tournament at Green Forest. The Panthers topped West Fork 76-71, and they’ll meet Lincoln this weekend.
Omaha will finish the tournament in fifth place. The Eagles defeated Green Forest 61-47.
