Victim in Tuesday morning fire in Yellville identified

The victim in an early Tuesday morning in Yellville has been identified as 41-year-old Shawnna Hammond.

Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans says 21-year-old Michael Nemeth was still listed in critical, but stable condition Tuesday evening. Nemeth was reportedly airlifted to a Springfield hospital following the fire reported at 1:04 Tuesday morning at 904 North Wickersham.

Marion County Office of Emergency Management Director Keith Edmonds said earlier three people were in the house and four people were in a camper trailer parked next to house. Edmonds says the electricity to the camper trailer went out and a male went to the house to investigate. When he entered the house, the wall where the breaker box is located was on fire.

Fire fighters from Yellville, Summit, Flippin and Ralph-Caney spent three and a half hours battling what Edmonds termed a “fast moving fire.” The house and the camper trailer are listed as a total loss. An adjacent house received minor damage from the fire as well.

Edmonds says from their preliminary investigation they believe the fire was electrical in nature. Sheriff Evans said late Tuesday there are no criminal actions noted at this time.

17 firearms in rear of vehicle lead to arrest

A cache of weapons in the back of a car being driven by a convicted felon has led to the arrest of 32-year-old Brandie Lyons of Salem.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday, Lyons’ arrest follows a traffic stop by an Arkansas State Police trooper on Nov. 27th.

Databases for the state and national crime information center indicate both Lyons and her father, Russell Blevins, who was a passenger in the vehicle, have lengthy drug histories. Blevins, as a convicted felon, had a search waiver on file. Upon request, Lyons consented to a search of the vehicle, and as she stepped out of the car said there was a bag containing four our five firearms on the back seat.

Inside the bag, the trooper located four gun cases, each containing a pistol. Upon further discussion, Lyons told the officer there were more guns behind the back seat inside a backpack and a duffel bag. In total, 16 pistols and one rifle-shotgun combo firearm were located.

In an interview at the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Lyons allegedly told officers her husband, who is also a felon, had given the weapons to her to sell, with the two then splitting the proceeds.

Lyons had already sold three firearms prior to the traffic stop, with $1,528 in her wallet.

The Fulton County woman was booked into the Baxter County jail and charged with felony counts of possession of firearms by certain person, meaning she is a convicted felon, and theft by receiving firearms.

Her bond was set at $2,500.

Midway woman charged after funds missing behind store counter

A Midway woman, 37-year-old Nichole Ashley Guinn, is facing four felony charges after she allegedly took funds from behind the counter of a convenience store when the manager stepped away.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the store manager reported in August he was out of the building at Midway taking care of trash when Guinn is alleged to have entered the business unnoticed. She reportedly went behind the counter and took $50.

The manager reviewed video once the money was discovered missing and was able to identify Guinn who lived in a nearby residence. He also obtained a vehicle plate number and a description of her car.

After reviewing the video from a few days prior, the manager told authorities he discovered Guinn allegedly had previously taken funds from the store.

Guinn was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Sunday and is charged with two felony counts of commercial burglary and breaking or entering. She also faces two misdemeanor counts of theft of property. Online jail records indicate Guinn also faces three misdemeanor counts of failure to appear.

Her bond was set at $17,145.

Branson teen posted about plans to buy firearm and ‘make history’

BRANSON, Mo. (AP)   A Branson High School student faces a felony charge after authorities say he posted on social media that he was going to buy an assault rifle and “make history.”

The Springfield News-Leader reports that 18-year-old William James Nelson was charged Thursday with making a terroristic threat. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Charging documents say Nelson told police that he planned to meet an unnamed individual that day to buy an AR-15 assault rifle.

The Branson Police Department was tipped off before midnight Tuesday about a series of messages that Nelson allegedly sent from his account to a female classmate. In the messages, Nelson allegedly pledged “allegiance to Allah,” asked where he could buy a gun and talked about needing a bullet proof vest.
