Ever since he began his month residency at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Billy Joel has had numerous guests join him onstage, from Bruce Springsteen to Paul Simon to John Mayer. But his show at the Garden on Wednesday night was a family affair.
As People magazine reports, Billy’s 32-year-old daughter, Alexa Ray, and his three-year-old daughter, Della Rose, both joined him onstage for duets. Alexa, a musician whose mom is Billy’s ex, Christie Brinkley, duetted with Billy on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
“We like to rope the family in when we’re doing Christmas,” joked Billy. You can watch fan-recorded footage of the duet on YouTube now.
As for Della, People reports that the toddler, wearing pink Christmas pajamas, sang with Billy on her favorite song by him: “Don’t Ask Me Why,” from his 1980 album, Glass Houses.
According to People, Billy’s wife Alexis — Della’s mom — watched from the wings, with the couple’s 13-month-old daughter, Remy Anne. Also cheering from the sidelines was Alexa’s fiancé, Ryan J. Gleason.
Billy will ring in 2019 with a New Year’s Eve show at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on his native Long Island. He has a January 11 show scheduled in Orlando, FL, and will then resume his monthly residency January 24. That show will mark the five-year anniversary of the residency.
