A local school district is preparing for a third attempt to get funding issues passed. Voters in the Gainesville R-V School District will be presented two separate funding issues in April.

One request is for an increase in the district’s operating tax levy ceiling by 47 cents from the current $2.75 per $100 assessed valuation. Gainesville Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hyatt says the district is in need of renovations and upgrades.

Gainesville voters will also see a general obligation bond issue of 28 cents on the same ballot. Dr. Hyatt says the bonds would pay for a new gymnasium.

Dr. Hyatt says the tax levy issue for renovations requires a simple majority of over 50 percent for approval, but the bond issue for the gymnasium needs a 4/7 majority, or 57.14 percent, to pass. He adds it has reached the point where he and the board are trying to spread the message that the district is in need of the funding.

In addition to the levy and bond issues, Gainesville voters will see two unopposed candidates running for school board re-election. Dr. Hyatt says incumbents Heather Bushner and Robby Walrath will appear on the ballot as required by a new Missouri state law.
