Jeff Quick, CEO of the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas, has been elected to serve a one-year term as president of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance board of directors. Quick has served as a member of the organization’s executive committee the past four years and replaces Arkansas Department of Labor Director Leon Jones Jr. as president of the organization’s board.The alliance’s mission is to provide a unified effort to reduce hunger and improve access to nutritious food by providing tools and resources, empowerment, advocacy, education and research across the state, and Quick says the Food Bank’s partnership with the alliance has been productive.

The alliance began as a result of funding awarded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to examine and improve the existing charitable food distribution system in Arkansas. The hunger-relief organizations in the state were identified and contacted by the Reynolds Foundation to determine their interest and willingness to work together to build a coordinated food distribution system.
In 2004, the six founding members, the Arkansas Foodbank <http://www.arkansasfoodbank.org/>, Food Bank of North Central Arkansas <http://www.foodbanknca.org/>, Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas <http://www.foodbankofnea.org/>, Harvest Regional Food Bank <http://www.harvesttexarkana.org/>, River Valley Regional Food Bank <http://www.rvrfoodbank.org/>and the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank <http://www.nwafoodbank.org/>, with the assistance of a three-year start-up grant from the Reynolds Foundation, formally incorporated the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.
Quick says the Food Bank of North Central Arkansas partners with the alliance on other projects.
