Families and friends of 44 young women from across the state are focused on Little Rock this week, as preliminary competition begins Tuesday night for the Miss Arkansas pageant. The 2019 Miss Arkansas pageant will be held Saturday evening. Among the 44 are five contestants from North Central Arkansas.
Two of the contestants, Alexis Ungerank and Sydney Wendfeldt, are from Mountain Home.
This is Ungerank’s second trip to the Miss Arkansas pageant. In 2018, after winning the Miss Lights of the Delta title, she built a high level of excitement in the Miss Arkansas pageant capturing two preliminary competition awards. She was also among those finishing between 11-15 announced in random order.
This year she is wearing the crown of Miss Northwest Arkansas as she competes for the Miss Arkansas title. The 20-year-old will compete in talent with a jazz dance to the music of “All That Jazz.” Ungerank’s social impact statement is Living the Gold Standard. She attended the University of Arkansas.
Also competing for Miss Arkansas from Mountain Home is Sydney Wendfeldt. Wendfeldt captured the title of Miss Ozark Mountain as her preliminary competition. The 23-year-old will compete in talent with a jazz vocal as she sings “Cry Me a River.” Wendfeldt’s social impact statement is Foster Care: A Home for Every Child. She attended the University of Arkansas.
Reagan Wheelis of Melbourne won the title of Miss River Delta to advance to the Miss Arkansas competition. The 21-year-old will compete in talent by playing the “Harry Potter Medley” on the piano. Wheelis’ social impact statement is More Than Pink. She attended the University of Arkansas – Walton College Graduate School of Business.
Two contestants are from Harrison, including one who competed for Miss Arkansas in 2018.
Ebony Mitchell won the Grace Award in preliminary competition in 2018 advancing to the pageant by winning the Miss Central Arkansas crown.
This year Mitchell won the title of Miss University of Central Arkansas and will compete in talent with a tap dance to the music “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” The 22-year-old’s social impact statement is S.A.F.E. Connections. She attended the University of Central Arkansas.
The second contestant from Harrison is Taylor Hensley, who captured the preliminary title of Miss North Central Arkansas. The 21-year-old’s talent competition will consist of a jazz dance to the music of “The Way You Make Me Feel.” Hensley’s social impact statement is Building Healthy Habits, Living Healthier Lifestyles. She attended the University of Arkansas.
The Miss Arkansas pageant will be held Saturday evening at 7 and will air on KATV.
The 2019 Miss Arkansas pageant is a preliminary for the Miss America competition in 2020.
