Law enforcement in Izard County reportedly has a person in custody in connection with a shooting and standoff Thursday afternoon.

KAIT is reporting the person, whose name has not been released, was shot once in the arm and taken to a local hospital.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette an hours-long standoff ended with the gunman’s surrender to authorities.

State police were called to a residence in the late morning Thursday after Izard County deputies reported a man fired on them and hid inside a home.

An active shooter situation was being reported in the Izard County in the Oxford community, according to multiple media outlets. The location is reportedly along Whispering Pines Road.

Areawide Media of Salem’s Facebook post reports a male subject had barricaded himself in a residence. Shots were reportedly exchanged.

KAIT reports a command center has been set up for SWAT, local authorities and Arkansas State Police at the Oxford Baptist Church, just down the road from the scene.
