The 2019 documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, which features new interview footage with Carlos Santana and other top musicians, will be released as a two-DVD set and a Blu-ray/DVD package on April 10.
The film takes an in-depth look at legendary jazz trumpet player Miles Davis‘ life and his influential, groundbreaking career. It features archival footage, rare photos and commentary with Davis’ friends, loved ones, musical collaborators and admirers.
In an official trailer for the documentary, Santana describes how people reacted when they heard Miles’ trumpet playing.
“[H]e starts playing and people are like, ‘Ohhhh,'” says the guitar great. “He just disarms you.”
Birth of the Cool also features appearances by famed producer Quincy Jones, music mogul Clive Davis and jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, among many others, as well as archival footage of Miles hanging out with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
The DVD and Blu-ray sets include bonus footage of Miles performing at Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival in 1973, 1984 and 1985, as well as a 16-page hardcover book.
