Following the approval by Mountain Home voters just over a month ago, Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption is set to begin April 19.
In the March 3 primary election, the measure passed with 54% voting in favor and 46% against. A combined 2,567 votes were cast in the election. The measure made its way to the ballot following a successful petition effort.
In a letter set to go out Tuesday to Mountain Home store owners who sell off-premise alcoholic beverages, City Clerk Brian Plumlee says the results of the primary election were certified on March 14.
Officials with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Division say sales may begin 30 days after the date of the certified election results, making April 19 the first opportunity for the transactions.
While alcohol can be served on Sunday in local restaurants, the sale at grocery stores, gasoline stations and liquor stores was prohibited in Baxter County, with the exceptions being the cities of Norfork and Salesville, until the recent election.
The approved measure sets out the hours allowing for the Sunday sales to be conducted between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
