Missouri man sentenced in woman’s death after police chase

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – A 56-year-old Springfield man has been sentenced to 30
years in prison for the death of a woman in during a police pursuit. Tommy
Morris Jr. was sentenced Tuesday for second-degree murder in the April 2018
death of 31-year-old Dana Sowards. Police say Morris was trying to escape law
enforcement when he ran a red light and crashed into a car driven by Sowers.
Police said the chase began when narcotics investigators tried to stop Morris
after a suspected drug deal. He was also scheduled to two 10-year terms for
attempting to deliver drugs. The sentences will be served concurrently.
