A Stone County woman, 35-year-old Stephanie L. Stair, has received a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a felony charge of endangering the welfare of a minor. Stair was originally charged with eight counts of permitting child abuse but seven of the counts were dropped by the state. The sentencing order in online court documents indicates seven of the eight counts of permitting child abuse were not processed, pursuant to the plea agreement.

Stair was arrested and charged in December 2018 with her husband, 48-year-old Lloyd Stair. Lloyd Stair was charged with eight counts of rape. He was sentenced to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction in June, after entering a guilty plea to one charge each of rape and sexual assault. Law enforcement maintained Stephanie Stair was aware of her husband’s sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14 and did not report the incidents to authorities.

At the time of the couple’s arrest, Stone County Sheriff Lance Bonds said the two were taken into custody following a report from a minor saying she had been raped for the last six years.

Stone County investigators made the arrests with the assistance of the Arkansas Crimes Against Children Division and the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
