Izard County man held on $100,000 bond; charged with 8 drug, weapon offenses

An Izard County man, 43-year-old Amos Louis Parnell of Pineville, has been arrested and charged with eight felony drug-related offenses, including two that are Class Y. Class Y felonies are the most serious classification of crime in Arkansas not punishable by death. Parnell’s bond has been set at $100,000 – cash only.

Izard County authorities say items seized in and around a residence in the Dolph community include 1.17 pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately $44,000; $3,243 in cash; a 9MM handgun and three marijuana plants.

According to the probable cause affidavit, investigators with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Izard County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Parnell’s property along West Crossroads on Tuesday. Officers were also reportedly included from Arkansas Community Corrections and the K9 unit of the North Central Unit of the Arkansas Department of Correction at Calico Rock.

Parnell and his wife were located inside the residence, along with several other occupants. Methamphetamine paraphernalia was observed in the area of the occupants. All parties were detained pending further search and investigation.

During the search of the residence, agents located two vacuum-sealed bags containing a large quantity of a white crystalline substance inside the freezer, the 9mm pistol located within a few feet of the freezer, glass smoking devices with burnt crystalline residue, a set of digital scales and the currency.

Outside the residence approximately 50 feet from the front door another vacuum-sealed bag was located containing a large quantity of a white crystalline substance, which was concealed under a broken cinder block, and two buckets containing green vegetable material plants consistent with marijuana. Also discovered in the home was a DVR recording system with cameras set up in various parts of the residence.

Parnell is charged with

– Trafficking a controlled substance, methamphetamine, 200 grams or more, a Class Y felony;

– Simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, a Class Y felony;

– Possession of drug paraphernalia w/purpose to analyze methamphetamine, a Class B felony;

– Possession of drug paraphernalia w/purpose to ingest methamphetamine, a Class D felony;

– Maintaining a drug premise, a Class C felony;

– Unlawful use of a communication device, a Class D felony;

– Manufacturing a Schedule 6 controlled substance, namely marijuana, a Class D felony;

– Possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class D felony; and

– Habitual offender.
