Arkansas State quarterback Logan Bonner entered the transfer portal Monday evening, 247Sports has learned. The redshirt junior quarterback will be a graduate transfer at his next stop.

Part of a two-QB rotation for the Red Wolves this season, Bonner has thrown for 1,863 yards and 18 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He’s thrown 262 total passes while redshirt freshman Layne Hatcher has taken 194. Hatcher started four games for the Red Wolves in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury. The Rowlett, Texas, native has thrown for 3,150 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound QB rated as the No. 2,331 overall player in the 2016 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He picked Arkansas State over a pair of other FBS offers from Southern Miss and UTSA.

Bonner is part of what promises to be a strong crop of transfer quarterbacks from the Group of Five, which currently includes McKenzie Milton (UCF) and Anthony Russo (Temple).

The NCAA introduced the transfer portal on Oct. 15, 2018, providing athletes a path to explore their options. Players do not need to ask permission from their coaching staff in order to transfer. They merely need to request that compliance enter their name. Usually, it takes 24-48 hours for a player to appear following their request. Schools are free to contact a player without restriction once their name appears in the portal.

The first portal cycle saw 1,942 FBS players enter in the initial calendar year of its existence, per a source.
