Christmas will be a bit brighter for 12 families and 34 children thanks to the Bull Shoals Shop With a Cop and Firefighter event held earlier this month.
The Bull Shoals Police Department says in a Facebook post, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event was held in partnership with the Bull Shoals VFW. The VFW was faced with either canceling its annual holiday party for local children or hold a virtual-style event.
With the assistance of Jess Wilkinson, the city’s court clerk, and VFW Post Commander Chuck Kinler, a drive-thru event was held at the Bull Shoals VFW Post on Dec. 12.
The police department says the event was made possible by the support of many folks within the community, who were very generous with their financial contributions, as well as scores of VFW, VFW Auxiliary members and VFW Riders who worked the drive-thru event.
Each child was given a $100 Walmart gift card, toys from the VFW, a holiday meal from the VFW Riders motorcycle group, a rescue blanket and teddy bear from the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church Blanket Ladies, coordinated by Mary Rose, a handmade teddy bear from Linda Preston, a goodie bag from the Bull Shoals/Lakeview Rotary club and a special visit from Santa.

The Bull Shoals Harp’s grocery store donated food to help the VFW Riders make the Christmas dinner baskets.
