A man accused of stealing a gun and manufacturing methamphetamine in a local hotel was arrested in Texas and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. Twenty-four-year-old Jose Lozano III of Gilmer, Texas, was booked Feb. 20 with bond set at $50,000.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mountain Home officers were notified by the hotel’s management a maid located a gun and suspected methamphetamine pipes, as she was cleaning a room. The room was reportedly rented to a male on probation with a warrantless search waiver on file.

After getting approval from the male’s probation officer, Mountain Home officers arrived at the hotel room and received no answer at the door. Officers entered the room after being provided a key. While no one was in the room, officers reportedly located an AR-15 rifle, later determined to be stolen out of Poinsett County, between the mattresses and a plastic baggie containing what appeared to be crushed up pseudoephedrine under the mattress.

Officers later located a bottle of Liquid Heat, a bottle of lye drain cleaner, a bottle of camp fuel, an instant cold pack and coffee filters in a bag beside the bed. They also found a Mason jar with water and two hoses out of the top inside a microwave. Officers state the items are commonly used in the “Nazi Method” of an anhydrous cooking of methamphetamine.

Other items located in the room include several clear pipes with burnt white residue, a set of digital scales, empty baggies, tools and a .9mm pistol in the dresser. Officers were also able to find a Texas ID, a Texas Department of Corrections ID and various credit cards for Lozano. There was also mail addressed to the renter of the room.

Lozano faces felony counts of possession of drug paraphernalia for the purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia for use of ingestion of methamphetamine, theft by receiving and possession of firearms by certain persons.
