An area child has died after being injured from what is being investigated as an accidental shooting. According to KYTV/KSPR, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the four-year-old female.
Authorities say the incident occurred Thursday afternoon around 3:45 at a residence on County Road 3010 near West Plains. Howell County deputies responded to a report of a child suffering an accidental gunshot wound. According to the sheriff’s office, the child found a pistol in the residence and shot herself. She was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
The investigation is being handled by the Howell County Sheriff’s Office to determine if charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
