For the third time in 2 1/2 weeks, a minor earthquake has been reported in northwest Marion County. The United States Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.4 quake was recorded 4.3 miles east of Diamond City at 6:23 Saturday evening. The location is 21.3 miles northeast of Harrison, 24 1/2 miles east-southeast of Branson and 26.8 miles west-northwest of Mountain Home.

The location of Saturday’s earthquake was near where two others occurred this month. A magnitude 2.0 quake was recorded 4.6 miles east of Diamond City July 8 at 1:13 p.m., and the second was recorded four miles east of Diamond City July 17 at 7:18 p.m.

Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.

Anyone who felt the quake can let the USGS know on their website.
