Dr. Jake Long, superintendent of Mountain Home Public Schools, will host a Walk-In Wednesday event Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the district’s administration building. During the event, Dr. Long is seeking feedback from community members about the district’s Facilities Master Plan.

The master plan is a six-year facilities improvement document school districts are required by law to complete and keep updated. The district’s plan includes enrollment projections, building system replacement, custodial and maintenance programs and other critical information.

The district is also seeking insight from parents and community members on options for an alternate school calendar. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education now allows Arkansas public schools to create calendars based on instructional minutes rather than instructional days.

This change in law allows for flexibility in calendar planning, and Dr. Long says he is interested in stakeholder feedback on that subject. Long says, “There are a lot of things to consider as we plan the school calendar every year, now that we have additional options in calendar-planning, we need to make sure we hear from those who are impacted by the school calendar, including students, staff, parents, and local employers. I’m looking forward to discussions with individuals from all of these groups.”

Stakeholders are encouraged to come in at any time throughout the day to visit with Long.

The district’s administration building is located at 2465 Rodeo Drive in Mountain Home. For more information about Walk-In Wednesday, call (870) 425-1201.
