One day after resigning from the Baxter County Quorum Court, Robert “Bob” Lowery of Mountain Home has announced the next position he will be seeking. The former justice of the peace will be a candidate in the race for judge of the 10th District, covering Baxter and Marion counties.
In his statement, Lowery says, “After much consideration I have decided to run for District Judge here in Baxter and Marion counties in 2022. I know that my experience as a former district judge for 21 years more than qualifies me for this position and makes me ready on day one. It is vitally important that we have judges throughout our court system who know their role as interpreters of the constitution and law as it is written; not those who wish to be activist, super-legislators. I believe wholeheartedly in impartiality, fairness, and equal treatment of all who come before the court. District Court is where most people have their first and only contact with our court system, and that is why it is incredibly important that everyone be treated objectively and without favoritism…”
Lowery was elected to the quorum court in 2018. He received his juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas, where he began his pursuit of practicing law. He previously served as a district judge in Sevier County for 21 years and as a circuit judge for the 9th Judicial District for two years. Lowery is also a former deputy public defender, deputy prosecuting attorney, court administrator for the Arkansas Supreme Court and a tenured delegate with the Arkansas Bar Association.
In addition to his seat on the quorum court, Lowery resigned as the president of the Baxter County Republican Men’s Club, the second vice-chair of the Baxter County Republican Committee and as a member of the Baxter County Republican Committee.
He is looking to fill the position that became open following former judge Jason Duffy’s resignation in October.
Lowery and his wife Jan, a medical technologist at Baxter Regional Medical Center, have been married for 40 years. Their two children are graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The election for the 10th District Judge will be held during the primary on May 24.
