Mountain Home is among eight cities where members of the Arkansas National Guard (ANG) are going to provide medical support during the ongoing COVID-19 surge.

In a social media post Thursday, the ANG advised 40 members will be mobilized Monday to nine hospitals across the state, including two to Baxter Regional Medical Center.

Guardsmen from the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are filling the tasking.

Tuesday, Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he planned to activate up to 50 National Guard members to assist the needs of medical facilities.

The 40 are being sent at the request of hospital administrators at each location to assist staff with the recent spike the state is experiencing in COVID-19 cases and the desire of Arkansans to seek testing, according to the release.

The guard members will report Monday to Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, then on Tuesday to their assigned hospitals.

Their initial orders are for 30 days, which may be extended or curtailed as conditions dictate.

Guard members will also work in Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Rogers and Springdale.

Additional guard members are working already at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
