A man is in the Ozark County Jail after fleeing on foot following a traffic stop. The unidentified male is awaiting formal charges after reportedly being discovered with methamphetamine and a firearm.
According to a Facebook post from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a vehicle Monday afternoon on Missouri Route CC for excessive speed and a lane violation. During the stop, a firearm was in plain view next to the driver. When the driver exited the vehicle, the deputy conducted a pat-down and felt something in the suspect’s pocket. He was detained after refusing to identify the object.
The deputy requested backup, and while waiting, the driver allegedly fled on foot. He was soon apprehended but continued to resist arrest. The suspect was later secured, after another Ozark County deputy and members of the Howell County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to assist.
The item in the driver’s pocket was suspected to be 5 1/2 grams of methamphetamine.
