LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas state legislator has tested positive for COVID-19, a House spokeswoman said Monday.

State Rep. Craig Christiansen told the House speaker over the weekend that he tested positive Friday night and was recovering at home, spokeswoman Cecillea Pond-Mayo said. Christiansen, who is fully vaccinated and has received the booster shot, was last at the state Capitol on Thursday, she said.

Christiansen, a Republican who has served in the House since 2019, is among nearly 30 state lawmakers in Arkansas who have tested positive for COVID-19 since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020.

Arkansas’ COVID-19 hospitalizations on Monday dropped by five to 1,715. The state’s hospitalizations last week had hit record levels, fueled by the highly contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The state reported 8,698 new coronavirus cases and 12 new COVID-19 deaths Monday, including figures from over the weekend. The actual number of new cases is likely higher due to the number of people testing at home or who are infected but haven’t been tested.
