An ordinance to abolish the library board is among the items of business on the Marion County Quorum Court’s agenda Tuesday evening at 6.
The ordinance, if approved, would make those employed by the library county employees for the purpose of benefits and compensation an subject to the county’s employee policy. All contracts and leases binding upon the library would then require review and approval of the county judge and be filed with the county clerk.
The proposed ordinance notes historically since 2008 the board has served in both administrative and advisory capacities.
Last year, the court passed an ordinance clarifying the responsibilities of the board in an administrative capacity regarding county employee status, benefits and compensation, contracts and leases.
In other business, the court will be asked to amend the county’s operating budget to reflect a grant of over $74,000 to the library from the Arkansas State Library’s CARES Act. The funds were earmarked for books and media and general office supplies.
Other items of business include proposed ordinances to payoff a grader and a tractor in the county road department and amending the budget to reflect the receipt of over $9,400 in grant funds for court security.
The agenda also includes a metro discussion.
The quorum court will meet in the Marion County Courthouse.
