Amazon’s last-mile delivery location opened Thursday on Lincoln Street in Lowell.

Arkansas Business reports the online retail giant is leasing a 60,000-SF warehouse from Rogers Warehouse Development LLC, which is a subsidiary of Crossland Realty of Columbus, Kansas. The project received permits from the city and state in late 2021.

The facility is Amazon’s sixth in Arkansas and first in the northwest region, home to Amazon’s arch-rival Walmart Inc. of Bentonville. Amazon’s fulfillment center in Little Rock and sortable center in North Little Rock employ a total of 2,500.

No definitive employment numbers have been released for the Lowell facility, but the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce said it would mean “hundreds” of jobs.

“We look forward to becoming part of the fabric of the local community and are thrilled to be able to expand our operations in northwest Arkansas,” said Jessica Breaux, Amazon’s manager of economic development. “We’re grateful for the strong support we’ve received from the community and the local and state leaders who have made our growth in Arkansas possible.”

Amazon has been expanding its infrastructure network in recent years, adding several hundred facilities to improve its shipping efficiency.

“I am proud to welcome Amazon to Lowell and look forward to a successful partnership,” Lowell Mayor Chris Moore said. “Being located in the geographic center of northwest Arkansas, Lowell is an ideal location for final transportation of Amazon’s goods and a reliable source of a highly skilled workforce for these new jobs.”
