A man pled guilty to charges in two open criminal cases in Baxter County and one in Marion County and was sentenced to four years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Fifty-year-old David Brian Gibson, who now lists an address in Paris (Logan County), was scheduled to go on trial this week but pled guilty instead.

His charges included possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia used to ingest the drug and possession of Ecstasy.

TWO BC ARRESTS

Gibson was first arrested in mid-September 2019 when he was found sleeping in a vehicle parked at a location along College Street.

When a Mountain Home police officer made contact with Gibson, he said he was waiting on his girlfriend.

The officer saw a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine on the center console of Gibson’s vehicle, and also located a substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine.

An unloaded firearm was found behind the driver’s seat.

Gibson admitted to possessing the methamphetamine and transporting the gun, but said the weapon did not belong to him.

His second Baxter County arrest came in April 2020 when he tried to outrun a Mountain Home police officer attempting to stop his vehicle for a traffic infraction.

The pursuit ended when officers went to a residence along Power Street and found Gibson hiding in what was described as a “secret room” in the garage.

Gibson first falsely identified himself as Ethan Watson, but a record check showed no one by that name. Gibson eventually gave officers his real name.

He said he had fled because he was in possession of illegal drugs. He admitted giving a false name because he had active criminal warrants in his real name.

REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER

Gibson is a registered sex offender and his Marion County charge stemmed from him violating registration requirements in late 2019.

According to records, Gibson was convicted of Internet stalking of a child in 2007 in Grant County. The charge was based on him having sexually explicit conversations with a girl he believed was 14-years-old, but was actually a female police officer.

He was also accused of attempting to set up a meeting with the female.

According to the latest statewide sex offender registration list maintain by the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, Gibson is listed as a Level 3 sex offender.

A Level 3 offender is assessed as being at a high risk for re-offending and should be considered a dangerous person.
