The Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association has released its Top 5 athletes and Coaches of the Year for each classification from the high school basketball season. A total of nine athletes and four coaches from the area were recognized on the girls’ side.
Mountain Home’s Lindsey Leonard was selected as the Junior High Coach of the Year. The top coaches on the high school include Will Stewart of Norfork in Class 1A, Eric Teague of Melbourne in Class 2A, and James Halitzka of Bergman in Class 3A.
Class 1A’s top five athletes include four from the area. Norfork is represented by Kiley Alman and Keely Blanchard, and Mammoth Spring is represented by Sara Crowe and Megyn Upton.
Two area athletes are on the list for Class 2A. Salem’s Chelsea Hamilton and Melbourne’s Kenley McCarn were both recognized by the association.
Bergman has three area athletes in the Class 3A Top 5. The Lady Panthers are represented by Maddi Holt, Abby Hodges and Kara Ponder.
Another area resident was recognized by the Arkansas Basketball Coaches Association late last year. Janet Wood was one of two coaches selected to receive the 2021 John Wooden Legacy Award for her time at Mountain Home.
