The primary election in Arkansas is a little over three weeks away, and area residents will have the opportunity this week to learn more about some of the candidates. The series of political forums will be held Monday through Friday starting at 9:10 each day and Saturday at 11 on KTLO-FM 97.9. All of the races featured during the week, with the exception of school board races, will be Republican primaries.

Monday will feature candidates for two sheriff’s races. Baxter County incumbent John Montgomery will be joined by challengers Henry Campfield and John Pate. The Republican candidates in the race for Marion County sheriff are Gregg Alexander and Dustin Earl Beals, and they’ll follow at 9:45. Alexander and Beals are running to succeed Clinton Evans, who did not file for reelection.

Another Marion County race is scheduled for the Tuesday forum. Incumbent Judge John Massey is being challenged for his seat by Jason Stumph.

On Wednesday, the four Republican candidates for Baxter County judge will be featured. Brian Plumlee, Shannon Feliccia, Kevin Litty and Eric Payne are running to succeed Mickey Pendergrass, who decided not to run for reelection.

Thursday’s forum will feature the first of two state representative races. Incumbent Jack Fortner will seek the District 4 seat and be challenged by Bruce Emerson.

The race to be featured on Friday is for state representative in District 3. Tom Bryant and Stetson Painter are running to succeed Nelda Speaks.

The final races to be featured on Saturday are for two positions on the Mountain Home School Board. Barbara Horton is being challenged by Carrie Ramsey, and Arnold Knox, also an incumbent, will face Bob Chester.

Questions are still being accepted for the forums. Anyone looking to submit questions for the candidates can email them to news@ktlo.com.
